The Alpha Dojo Project dates back to 1986. I was only ten years old when I discovered my passion for martial arts, especially for Karate. Since martial arts were banned in Romania at the time, I explored judo, wrestling and boxing for four years.
Starting in 1990, when Karate became a legal sport, I began studying Karate Shotokan. At the same time, to gain a deeper understanding of martial arts, I also trained in Goju-Ryu Karate, Shito-Ryu Karate, Kyokushin Karate, Ju-Jutsu, Judo, and Kempo over the years.
In October 2004, when I discovered Wado Ryu Karate, I restarted my journey by wearing the white belt again and working my way up to the black belt, filtering my learning through the lens of almost 20 years of experience and integrating it all into a highly efficient combat system, suitable for both competition and real-life self-defense.
Over the years, my dedication, passion, and experience led to my winning national and international titles. However, beyond the sport, I valued the effectiveness of Wado-Ryu techniques, which seamlessly combine Karate fundamentals with Ju-Jutsu, ground fighting, and defense against bladed weapons.
After obtaining my coaching license in 2014 and the title of Emeritus Master of Sport in 2015, I decided it was time to pass on the knowledge I had accumulated, and the Alpha Training Club (Alpha Dojo) was established, affiliated with the Romanian Karate Federation (FRK), the European Wadokai Karate Federation (FEW), and the World Karate Federation (WKF).
During the first years, we conducted training sessions at School No. 179 in Bucharest, where Alpha Dojo athletes achieved their first podium placements in national style championships. It was during this period that Adrian Bolovăneanu, a martial arts enthusiast and excellent Wado practitioner, became actively involved in the project.
Now, in collaboration with Adrian and with the leadership of the Romanian-American University we have decided to consolidate the project and operate within a university setting, focusing on both athletic performance and teaching practitioners the principles of Budo (“the Budo Path”).
Whether you’re interested in discovering martial arts and mastering Wado-Ryu Karate, pursuing a sports career, acquiring the technical skills for effective self-defense, or improving your physical condition, we invite you to train with us at the Combat Gym of the Romanian-American University on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays from 7:00 PM to 9:00 PM.
